When to reshaft a club
· Dennis Gray
People bring us clubs they want reshafted and we talk about half of them out of it. A shaft is the engine of the club, but it is not always the problem.
Reshafting makes sense when the shaft is damaged, when the flex is clearly wrong for your swing speed, or when you are changing the weight of the whole set for a good reason. It does not make sense because a friend told you to or because a catalog said so.
Cheaper things to try first
A new grip fixes more than people think. So does a loft and lie check. If you still want a new shaft after those two, bring the club in and we will talk through the options.
A reshaft takes two to five days and starts at $55 per club, shaft included, though prices vary with the shaft.
